May Life and Peace be upon all beings.
Today is the day of the year when the duration of the night equals that of the daytime, and from which it exceeds it, in the northern hemisphere.
The sun Sets from its high summer path, toward its winter path, low in the sky. Its light softens and lets the life that was powerful during summer see its fruits come to fruition, then Set, rest and return to the matrix from which it originates, in order to complete its life cycle and regenerate itself. Thus, we call it the Day of the Setting of the Sun, and it is commonly known as the autumn equinox.
From today onward, the night is longer than the daytime. In the southern hemisphere, it is the opposite.
Thus, the vivid Light softens into a gentle Glow, symbolising the passage from Liberation to Guidance, the orientation of unlimited and balanced might around the centre, toward the Right Direction that leads it toward the Realisation of its Ends.
This day symbolises the Direction of the vital cycle toward the sought End, the guidance of action, the realisation of the result in actualised and successful reality. It is old age, during which the children begotten become mature and capable adults, in their turn able to reproduce, engender Life and transmit Knowledge to their future children.
Symbolically, after the Liberation of the Me, the Free Me finds itself in a state of Union with the Real Self in the United Being which has become One again. The Whole and Full and One Being then Guides itself toward the End that it Freely Chooses, by Directing its Might in the Direction that leads it toward its chosen End. It crosses the Threshold separating the apparent world from the hidden might; it comes out of the world in order to act upon it.
Just like the sun which, after the daytime during which it was still visible and its vivid light illuminated the world, crosses the threshold of the horizon, sets and disappears beyond it where it is no longer visible, leaving twilight as its glow that persists as its trace in the world despite its withdrawal from sight.
And just like living beings which, from the autumn equinox onward, prepare to withdraw into their hiding places within the matrix of the earth from which they originate, and disappear from sight, to enter the rest of the annual winter sleep in which they will regenerate themselves.
This day symbolises the Maturity of Life which reaches its full development in complexity and in knowledge and in power; it symbolises mastery, wisdom and guidance.
It is celebrated in many cultures around the world as the beginning of the phase of the year that is the season of harvest and the constitution of food provisions, autumn. Autumn symbolises the harvest of the fruits of the work accomplished and their contemplation in peace.
The astronomical event corresponds to an inclination of the sun’s apparent position that is equal in both the northern and the southern hemispheres, the sun being at the exact zenith of the equator, and making it rise at the exact East and Set at the exact West. Today, it occurs precisely at 20 h 50 min 14 s UTC, corresponding to 22 h 50 min 14 s in Central European Summer Time (CEST = the UTC+2 time zone which includes notably Belgium and France).
Autumn will last 89 days this year.
